Pedalling with Purpose
In 2020, we merged with adventure touring company Brake the Cycle, market leaders in sustainable, boutique nature-inspired cycling holidays.
Brake the Cycle is a community for adventurous people looking to squeeze the most out of life in a way that doesn’t harm the planet. A community for people who love adventuring and the outdoors so much they don’t want to see it destroyed through climate change, plastic pollution and the loss of our wild spaces.
What we offer
We ride through some of the UK and Europe's most epic landscapes and stay at inspirational eco-friendly places.
About Brake the Cycle
Since 2012 we’ve been running cycle trips from single-day adventures to three-week epics.
We add our sustainability-infused twist on many a cycling classic. Our authentic, holistic and accessible trips are for people who are looking to explore new places and passions, challenge their bodies while expanding their minds, and doing it all in a like-minded, supportive group.
In 2020 Brake the Cycle officially merged with Adventure Uncovered.
We’re connected
To a vast network of eco villages, permaculture projects and transition movements. We’re well immersed in the alternative scene.
We’re transformative
We recognise the empowering nature of cycling and believe that our tours can help you take the lessons of the road into the rest of your life.
Our food is local and sustainably sourced
Organic, natural and sustainably sourced. Hugely nutritious food, putting plant power in your pedalling.
We're light on footprint, big on impact
We keep our carbon emissions as low as possible but for the flights we do end up taking we levy a flight tax. We use this tax to support grassroots environmental initiatives, ecosystem restoration and activism. 'Composting' our waste to help nourish communities and restore the earth.
'A brilliant way to see the country, and to be amazed by what your body and mind is capable of doing. I wished I could keep on cycling forever!'
Meet the core team
Shalyn Wilkins
Since joining her first Brake the Cycle trip, Shalyn has been hooked on adventuring by bike. Having now converted countless friends and family (and sometimes even strangers) to the joys of biking, Shalyn joins us to lead rides and share her infectious enthusiasm for exploring by bike, opportunistic yoga, sharing good food and camping under the stars. It's also quite possible that Shalyn holds the record for the most puncture-repairs in a calendar year - so we're glad to be in experienced hands.
James Ballantyne
James's first Brake the Cycle trip was back in 2015 when he cycled LEJOG. Since then he's crewed on many trips, across 5 different countries. James loves languages and can speak French, Spanish and Italian as well as his native English. When not cycling James works as a civil servant on UK government climate change policy.
